Hi! I’ve got a new ‘Sewing Uniform! Quite frankly, the amount of times I’ve rushed out of the door, after sewing to the very last available minute, only to discover too late that my clothes are covered in thread and bits of snipped fabric! It’s not a good look on the school run, when a fellow Mum stops to pick the lose threads off your clothes! And not only that, you return home to find you’ve shed them all over the house!
So whatever was left of my dignity called ‘Time’ on that and went on the hunt for a suitable Apron pattern…

Around the time I was compiling my MakeNine list for this year, I fell upon the Maria Apron by Maven Patterns. I didn’t want a ‘Granny’ style Apron but rather something that could fulfil the function of an apron without frills and frump. I knew I wanted a cross-back and the Maria, with its Japanesque artisan vibes, has the style lines I was looking for – including some very roomy pockets for stashing my ‘phone and a wad of tissues – I seem to be picking up every bug going this year!
The pattern has a couple of Views, including a full wrap at the back. I opted for View A, the ‘open’ back. Both Views are finished with a facing to the inside, however, if you really wanted to you could actually make the apron fully reversible; how cool is that!
I was sent a length of this rather extravagantly gorgeous Indigo Robert Kauffman linen/chambray blend by Minerva Crafts* as part of this months’ Blogger Allowance, and I felt it would exactly suit the utilitarian-artsy look I was after!
You’ll have to make do with Dolly doing the dubious modelling for this one, rather than my usually awkward self, as I’ve got another bug with accompanying swollen glands – I thought I’d spare you the horror, haha!

The pattern comes in four sizes, Small through to Extra Large. Despite it’s simple shape, I did alter the pattern somewhat to make sure it fit my petite but full-chested frame. Sorry to be such a tease, but if you want to read the full blog post (and access the fabric) you’ll need to click HERE to go on over the Minerva’s blog.
Do you wear a Sewing Uniform? All I now have to do is remember to take the Apron off before I dash out the door!
Until next time, Happy Stitching!
(PS – #sewtogetherforsummer 2019 launches this Wednesday, 10th April – hope to see you back here, then!)

[…] really loved The Maria Apron by Maven Patterns, especially when the lovely Sarah blogged about it here. But in the end I could not resist the big old wrap around pockets that Simplicity 8816 had to […]

I’ve just taped together the Helen’s Closet York Pinafore and, after reading your blog, might just invest in that gorgeous Robert Kaufman denim/linen material. ☺
